Content ID is an automated system that helps copyright owners identify and manage their content on YouTube. The Content ID database contains over 50 million active reference files, and YouTube has actually paid out $2 billion to rightsholders via monetized claims since Content ID first launched 10 years ago.

How does the Content ID system work?

DPM Network Music Distribution in Partnership with Lick’d sends your music to YouTube to be enrolled in their content id tracking system, and a digital fingerprint is created. The database is then scanned to determine if the audio and video fingerprint is used in any uploaded videos. When the system finds a match, the video using the content gets a Content ID claim, and monetization (ads) will be turned-on for that video. YouTube charges advertisers on a per-click or per-display basis and shares the revenue with you, allowing you to earn money whenever your music is used on YouTube. The money collected from that then gets forwarded to us and will appear in your royalty statements.

How the Monetization on Soundcloud Work, are song that you upload to Soundcloud which have ads placed on them by the Soundcloud Ads platform. When you select SoundCloud on the delivery  for monetization, you are explicitly telling Soundcloud that you want them to place ads on the content and collect revenue. The revenue comes from subscribers who pay for the premium streaming offering from Soundcloud called Soundcloud Go as well as the ad-revenue collected from the ad-placements.

What is a W-8BEN

The Form W-8BEN, Certificate of Foreign Status of Beneficial Owner for United States Tax Withholding, is used by foreign persons (including corporations) to certify their non-U.S. status. The form establishes that one is a non-resident alien or foreign corporation, to avoid or reduce tax withholding from U.S. source income, such as rents from U.S. property, interest on U.S. bank deposits or dividends paid by U.S. corporations. For Independent Artists Using Us Directly: Why is my label showing up as DPM Network Music Distribution? 

If you see your release under the label name “DPM Network Music Distribution” that is because partners such as Beatport, JunoDownload, and others don’t add artists as label names.

To get your label onto Beatport, we must first submit your label for approval. If your label is already on Beatport, we must issue a transfer request in order to deliver your products through our feed. Please get in touch to facilitate either of these options for your label.

Once your label is approved, you are free to select the content to Beatport  and we will deliver to Beatport without any further approval. 

When you contact us, provide your full label name as well as a square version of your logo in JPG format so we can forward it to the Beatport team.

Streaming fraud is when an artist uses artificial means to increase their streams.

This is bad. Please do Not do it.

DPM Network works directly with stores  to detect this type of activity.

If you’re caught committing streaming fraud, your music will be removed from stores and you won’t get paid. You may receive a warning from DPM Network and/or your DPM Network account will be closed.

Sometimes, streaming-fraud are  not from an artist being malicious–but from hiring a shady marketing company. If you’re planning on hiring a marketing firm, please do your research and only work with reputable companies. There are many so-called marketing companies that appear legit but actually use bots and other shady methods to artificially increase streams. This almost always ends badly. Please check references and do your research. as well per our agreement of music Distribution we don’t tolerate Fake Streams. 

A sound recording is the fixation of a series of musical, spoken or other sounds – a recorded performance.  

Although a musical work is embodied within a sound recording, they are legally separate.
